Communion Confusion
Stop, and See

Take your position, stand still, and see the victory of the LORD on your behalf. —2 Chronicles 20:17 NRSV
The service was well underway when my husband and I arrived. Not only had we gotten out the door late, but there had been traffic on the freeway. Our daughter was in the loft with her violin, a featured musician for Mother's Day, but we had missed the prelude and some of the beautiful music.
We entered the church quickly and slipped into one of the last pews without disturbing too many people. Once seated, I was mentally reviewing all the "stuff" — what we could have done to leave home earlier, what other roads might have gotten us there faster, what we had missed so far, etc, etc.
Then I lifted my eyes and saw the beauty of the church and opened my ears to the scripture and accompanying message and was taken aback at the magnificence. I repented of my inward, small-minded perspective and glorified God for all the good of that moment. So. Much. Good.
The morning might not have been perfect, but it was good and true and beautiful.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, cause me to lift my eyes above the imperfections on the ground and instead fix my gaze upon Your glory and goodness.
