My Daughter, Look at My Wounds
I realized recently that there is only one goal in this life: To attain loving union with our God so that we can begin to live eternity on earth.
When I search for my deepest desires, I realize that I want that more than anything else. To live the joy, peace, and wonder of eternity in my life right now.
And I'm learning that to attain this, to keep oneself in a state of grace, to feel one with God, and to maintain a peaceful, gentle and loving spirit towards others really comes down to mastering three simple practices:
1. Pray unceasingly. Continually pray throughout the day. Pray in your mind and your heart. Make your whole life a living prayer.
2. Keep yourself in God's presence. Be ever mindful that He is with you in each moment. Never let God leave your heart.
3. Return your gaze on the Lord. When you do turn away, ask for His mercy, and return back quickly to gaze on the Lord.
It may take me my entire life to master these, but these simple practices will change us. They mold our minds and hearts into the image and likeness of Christ. They draw us into an intimacy with God that cannot be shaken. Their fruits are abundant and beautiful -- greater virtue abounds in our lives.
They lead to everlasting union with our Creator -- the deepest desire of our hearts.
