You Knew Me In My Mother's Womb
Breath prayer, simple prayer sequenced to the rhythm of our breath, can be helpful to stay in the presence of God as we go about our day.
God's been prompting me to pay more attention to breath prayer over the last few months as I seek to remain continually in His presence. I was reminded of breath prayer at Mass recently when the priest encouraged us to breathe in the Holy Spirit. What a peaceful image to carry with you throughout the day.
One of my favorite breath prayers that I've recently started using is the Jesus prayer, "Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me." It's a powerful, simple prayer that brings me momentary peace, refocuses me on Jesus, and draws me back into God's mercy. The Holy Spirit reminds me of those words throughout the day when He wants me to say it.
There are other breath prayers we can use -- simple statements that draw focus to our breath and the gifts God wants to give us.
Try these breath prayers at different points during the day to draw yourself back into God's presence, and remind yourself of what He wants to give you and what He wants you to release to Him.
