Finding Christ
Go out into the deep
The swift rush of water makes its own music-
A steady percussion accompaniment
To occasional cries of overhead gulls
Echoes with the murmuring winds
Against the boat canvas.
Is this the same feeling of God’s power and wonder which Paul felt on his sea journeys?
At Capernaum Jesus comes to the Apostles about three miles from shore. They are afraid- afraid of the unknown- fear, the invisible enemy. “It is I; do not be afraid.” Jesus calms them and brings them to shore.
We have Jesus on board as we have just received Him in Eucharist. A cross anchors our neck, binding us to Christ’s love for us, a reminder of our hope for eternal life with Christ.
The wind of His Spirit gives us strength of grace to overcome all fear.
The murmuring sound of His words, soothe one, and is always available to those sailors who seek Him in the nimbus clouds and sometimes deep waters of life.
Like the boat, we too are on a set course, a journey which leads to peace, security, a safe harbor- our heavenly end.
This day God sends me
Strength as my steersman,
Might to uphold me,
Wisdom as guide.
Amen.
