Suffering is a medicine for salvation, not a punishment for damnation.
If you are like me, you do not ask for help. You try to do it yourself. We figure that if we just work harder, we can do it. The adage of ‘work smarter, not harder’ comes to mind. And if we are to work smarter, what should we do? We should go to someone who can help us out. Someone with the power and ability to help us.
Of course, the someone we should go to is God. God keeps the cosmos into existence, but loves us despite our seemingly smallness. Jesus did not die for the cosmos. He died to redeem us. And if He cared that much to come down from Heaven to save us, would He not save us in our “daily” troubles? Indeed, this is where we can rely on Him more. He wants to help us, and He most definitely can.
Our largest issue with this is being willing to take a little time to ask for assistance when we are facing urgent issues. We must fight that temptation. After all, that temptation is not from God. The Devil does not want us to rely on God. The Devil wants us to go without God. As he did in the garden, he wants us to think we can be our own god.
St. Joseph, you were faced with difficulties and always listened to God’s promptings, help us to listen to God’s promptings when we are faced with difficulties.
