Harambe: What would Jesus do?
We fool ourselves thinking we need something or someone other than God. God is to be first in our lives exactly because without Him there would be nothing. No things, no others, and no us. That person you are looking to gain consolation from, was made by God and made in the image and likeness of God, but is not God. If you want the best, you should look for the best. And while we are good, our goodness is only a reflection of God.
God is constantly calling you and I. He wants to be closer to you. Not that God is ever far from you, as your Creator and the One keeping you in existence, He cannot, but it is us that move away from God. He gave us everything He had and continues to do so today. The Only-Begotten Son held nothing back on Calvary and continues that complete self-giving sacrifice by giving us Himself at Mass in each Eucharistic host. Yet, we hold back. Our hearts yearn for God, but we keep trying to fill the God-sized hole in our hearts with such small stuff.
God is more than willing to be so close to us that He dwells within our hearts. But He does not force Himself upon us. God knocks on the door of our hearts, but He needs us to let Him in. Are you and I busy sometimes when He knocks? Are we sometimes in the midst of finding joy when He knocks? Yes and yes, but God also knows these things. He knows what really needs to get done. Why do we not then trust the all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-loving God Who gives Himself completely to us?
St. Joseph, you did not hesitate when God asked of you. Please help us to do the Will of the Father without hesitation and to see the love God has in asking us to be His instruments of love no matter how ridiculous His Will may seem to us at the time.
