Finding New Meaning in Suffering
Have you ever been in need of God’s rescuing?
For some time, I have felt an unsteadiness in this world. A few weeks ago, it got worse and I felt a complete lack of safety in this world. All I kept thinking to myself was how unsafe I felt in this world. Everything felt unstable and vulnerable -- like it could be lost in an instant. The fear was disabling.
But on that day and in the days that followed, God reassured me He was my shelter and safe haven. I was reminded of this in multiple songs and psalms that echoed God’s help in affliction -- namely, Psalms 61 and 91. The day after, I was filled with calm and peace after the storm.
The Enemy is vicious and we constantly need to be rescued from his grasp -- from the fears, despair, anxieties, disturbances and emotions that immobilize us. Only God can rescue us. He is our Rescuer and our Refuge.
These truths really came alive for me that day. I finally understood all those lines in psalms and Scriptures crying out to God for safety, refuge, help and rescue. I understood the affliction and fear they stemmed from.
God knows we are afflicted. God knows we feel unsteady in this world. He knows our earthly foundations can break. God knows the traps of the Enemy and wants to save us. He wants us to take refuge and shelter in Him, and He will teach us what that means.
My Rescuer, save me from the Enemy’s grasp, wrap me in Your safety, and lay me on Your secure foundation.
