Evil and the demonic have become so instilled and indoctrinated into our culture that we don't even recognize it anymore, worse we equate darkness with light, evil with holiness and bad for good. We disregard what our clergy promotes because after all, we know better right? Pride definitely goeth before the fall! The subject of Harry Potter books demonstrates this more than anything else. The vehemence and vile evident in the defense of these books by fans is proof to me that there is something amiss about them. The comparison of our Blessed Lord and Savior to the character of Harry Potter by these same fans demonstrates the evil within them to an even greater degree. The fact that so many utilize valuable time and energy absorbing themselves in "entertainment" that although no official decree or teaching from the Church, but that many prominent clergy and exorcists have condemned raises questions for me. Sure, the multitudes will flock to evilness, Satan cannot make Hell appear attractive so he makes beautiful the road that leads there, while the cross and the burden of saving souls at any cost and sacrifice is the road to Heaven.
Simply, why take the risk? Why would we want to expose ourselves to such things? Why are we so hellbent on trying things that could possibly be bad and lead us away from God. Why even try it? If our main goal of life is becoming holy why would anything that people with authority advise against be disregarded so carelessly and easily. Why can't we understand the there are many things in the world and our universe that we don't completely understand, and with that comes danger. It is.very easy to start the slide down the slippery slope, so perhaps we are better off keeping a distance from anything controversial and not fully deemed good and holy.
We love the things of this world. Unfortunately most of us cling to them as well. Perhaps time spent in prayer and adoration would be time better spent talking to the Lord than becoming absorbed in fantasy stories written by someone who has had past ties to the occult and has become temporally rich and famous through the use of occult imagery and poetry. Again, why risk our souls and our communion with Christ for anything? We really need to recognize that sometimes fun and games or not innocent. Most of time, what the world loves is NOT of Christ or the way of the Cross. Are we so attached to this world that we will forfeit love of God for it or let anything possibly harmful come between that relationship? We don't know everything, and clergy who take the unpopular stance are the ones walking the way of the Cross. That doesn't just include Harry Potter but a multitude of offerings this world will inundate us with. The devil is just waiting for the chance to pounce, and he does disguise himself in sheep's clothing. So, wariness is prudent, and could save our souls. Let's look at everything we encounter through the eyes of the Cross and with prayer before embracing them so adamantly and fully. By dong this, the soul we save could be our own.
