What is your 60 second commercial?
Do you know why you are Catholic? If you don't know, how can you explain and convince anyone else that they should be Catholic too? We should all know why we are Catholic, and if we don't then we really have some work to do. It is work that is vital and must be a priority, the souls of our loved ones are at stake! If we can't explain why we are Catholic to someone, confidently and succinctly in 60 seconds, then we are not going to be very effective at the commission that Jesus charged us with, to go make disciples.
Here is my commercial. Why am I Catholic?
Because I love God, and because I love God, having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ just isn't good enough for me, I want an INTIMATE relationship with Jesus Christ, and it doesn't get more intimate that receiving Jesus: Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in the Eucharist. You can only find the Eucharist in the Catholic Church that Jesus lived and established for us during his Earthly life and ministry. Actually, the entire world and all of creation was established for the Catholic Church and this is played out and foreshadowed throughout the Old Testament.
If you don't know this story, you need to learn it! Jesus gave us the great gift of the Church so that we would have a guideline and blueprint for how to live the way that he wants and desires, it also gives us the blueprint and guidelines on how to worship in the way God desires. Living this way will make us happy and give us Joy, in this life and the next. God should know that because he made us!
If we deny the Catholic Church and the gifts that Jesus gives us for our salvation through the Sacraments, we deny Christ, and if we deny Christ then we may be relinquishing our Salvation and Eternity with Him. We also deny our own happiness and life in Christ.
There is nothing worth that, not our kids, not our spouse, not our jobs, not our politics and not our Sunday football games. If we love God we will obey the commandments he gave us through His Son and through the Catholic Church, not our own. We can only truly love Christ with the intensity that He deserves through the Church and Her Sacraments.
Bam! That is it! I might be more than a minute, I don't know I didn't time it but it should be close. So make your own and be ready, you never know when you will be called upon to defend your faith or lead someone else to it. Scripture tells us to always be ready.
1 Peter 3:15 - "But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect."
If we can't do this, how will we ever expect to bring anyone to the Faith much less convince others to stay in the Faith! It is our responsibly and up to us - our Great Commission.
