What God Speaks in Your Losses
Over the years, I've heard many pieces of guidance on how to conquer your sins of relationship with others -- whether its selfish desires, making those relationships idols, envy, or struggling to love the person.
Of course changing your thoughts, avoiding triggers, and turning to God always helps, but for me, they don't always fully resolve it. But there's one prayer in particular that has really helped move the needle on some of these for me.
When tempted with these forms of sin, I will often pray a blessing for the person.
May this person be calm.
May this person be peaceful.
May this person be loved.
May this person be filled with the presence of God.
If I continue to struggle with that temptation, I continue to repeat these words, until I'm filled with a feeling of love for the person. In this way, I transform the sinful tendency to an act of prayer, love and peaceful unity with another.
