Being Trustworthy in All the Small Ways
I am working with a career coach right now and we are talking a lot about my current role, where I want to be in the future, and the dreams inside of me -- and how God fits into all that.
One day she said to me, "You know, your job is someone else's dream."
She went on to add that she works with people whose dream is the current job that I have in my workplace.
Suddenly, I was reminded that my job, even with its demands, frustrations, and set-backs, is a huge gift that others desire.
I reflected on her comment quite a bit, and thought of my other blessings. My living place. My car. My financial security. My ability to put food on the table every night. My friendships. My possessions. My opportunities to serve. The time I have to pray and reflect.
It's all a gift.
And it's all someone else's dream.
Someone else in the world does not have what I have.
It reminded me of walking in the park a few months ago and a man from the inner city in a wheelchair stopped me on the track and praised God for the natural beauty and life that surrounded him. In the inner city, he didn't have these surroundings each day. To him, it was like a dream suburb to live in.
I was taken aback not only that this man had such joy in spite of his disability, but that he praised God for things I take for granted each day. He was full of life in the beauty surrounding him!
So this Thanksgiving, ask yourself what dream of someone else's you are living and thank God for that abundance and His graciousness to you.
