Living The Worthy Life- The Role Of The Lay People In The Church
Living The Worthy Life: Judge Not
After watching television or listening to radio, social media, or conversations in any public gathering, it becomes apparent that we live in a period of time where judging other people is not only okay- it is the norm. How could this possibly be? Was this always like this?
This week let us look at Bishop Fulton Sheen take on this very subject. “Moral principles do not depend on a majority vote. Wrong is wrong, even if everybody is wrong. Right is right, even if nobody is right.” Now we have groups of people who believe they are correct and begin judging others badly or poorly for doing the exact same thing as what they have done themselves.
In Romans 2:1-8 we see what becomes of The Righteous Judgment of God, “Therefore you have no excuse, whoever you are, when you judge others; for in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, are doing the very same things. You say, “We know that God’s judgment on those who do such things is in accordance with truth.” Do you imagine, whoever you are, that when you judge those who do such things and yet do them yourself, you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you despise the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience? Do you not realize that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But by your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed. For he will repay according to each one’s deeds: to those who by patiently doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; while for those who are self-seeking and who obey not the truth but wickedness, there will be wrath and fury.”
Are we really seeking after the truth or are we feeding our own self interests? Are we judging others for the exact same thing we have done or are we truly looking into the truth? Can we see the truth if we are blinded by our desires? These are questions that we should be thinking about as we go about our daily business now. However, instead we are hanging on every word or phrase we can as our attention has been diverted to circus called politics.
“Counsel involving right and wrong should never be sought from a man who does not say his prayers.”
Fulton J. Sheen
