Enduring Joy: What Serving Refugees Taught Me
This theme of God knowing me in my mother’s womb, forming who I am, numbering the hairs on my head, and choosing me before I ever came into being is consistently coming up in my prayer lately, and calling me to recollect my own dignity and purpose, but also that of all people.
When I start to think about these truths, I start to see each life as God’s chosen masterpiece. All actions against life like abortion, the death penalty, suicide, prison injustice, violence, and extreme poverty -- reveal why anything not in support of life is evil.
It is ending a life that God chose for His purposes. It is cutting short His plan. It is not allowing that person to give their gifts to the world, to participate in the building up of His kingdom, and to receive God’s good blessings.
He knew us in our mother’s womb. He knows every part of us...the good, the bad, the ugly. Every one of us He willed into being with a purpose and a unique set of gifts and talents. He’s the Divine Parent. The Divine Artist. Sculpting and molding us into His Masterpieces.
That sculpting and molding takes time and an active life journey, and that’s why we stand for life. Because we believe that everyone has the right to take that journey, to walk with God, be His canvas, and come to know and grow into the chosen Masterpiece they are.
