Living The Worthy Life: The Attack On The Family
Bishop Sheen put it this way, ¨Sometimes the only way the good Lord can get into some hearts is to break them.¨
Well in these troubled times, nothing could be greater or more helpful to many of us than to reflect upon Bishop Sheen´s words of wisdom concerning these troubled times that we live in today.
“We are at the end of Christendom.” Bishop Fulton Sheen said during a talk in 1947. Making clear he didn’t mean Christianity or the Church, he said, “Christendom is economic, political, social life as inspired by Christian principles. That is ending — we’ve seen it die. Look at the symptoms: the breakup of the family, divorce, abortion, immorality, general dishonesty.”
Now, look at the headlines of today. Stock Market Has The Worst Day Ever. Stock Market In Free Fall. Stock Market Suffers The Worst Week Ever. As the money is squeezed out of the market and both poor and rich like are have lost a great deal, what have we truly lost?
The headlines are full of Coronavirus, Quarantines, and Death- but I ask again what have we truly lost?
The answer my friend is that we have lost everything and the problem is that we do not realize what we have lost. He worries about the things that are meaningless and trivializes what is truly important. This may be part of human nature, but it is part of human nature we need to change. As a wise priest would say, you do not see a U Haul truck attached to a Hearse at a funeral, do you?
Just like the parable of the rich man going to heaven. He secured his treasures here on earth. Are you like him? Do you want to be like him?
If you do not, quit today the habits that costing you your eternal salvation. This is simple today.
Take your family to Church. If you go Sunday already, go more often. If you do not attend presently make a present to your whole family and attend with them. This is the key to happiness. Happiness does not lie on the bottom line, it lays in the finish line. We do not complete this life while we are alive, we only complete it after we have reached the hereafter. Therefore, our goal should be a very long term perspective on life. We are eternal creatures with short term memories.
Be aware that perfection does not lay in this world it lays in the next. We should stop worrying about the stock market, coronavirus, and the such. We need to start worrying about our souls. The real Chicken Soup For The Soul can be found in the greatest book of them all- The Bible. Read it, know it, and practice it.
