God of Laughter
Have you ever met someone who emulated the simple truths of the Gospel? I have found that in a new Catholic friend who happens to have a disability, but is higher functioning. One of the greatest gifts he has given me is his witness to the Simple Gospel.
This person continually says four things. He knows God loves him. He knows he is made in God’s image. He knows he is serving God by making others happy and being there for them with his presence. He knows the Gospel life is about caring for one another.
And you know what? It’s working for him. He never seems to stray. His faith and belief is so consistent. He is a steady believer. His mind doesn’t get in the way. He keeps serving God in his simple ways.
I marvel at that because all too often my overthinking, overcomplicating head gets in the way of my faith. This person has boiled my complex intellectual theology into simplicity, and reminds me that the Gospel is really about these four things. A true gift!
May we all be reminded of the Simple Gospel.
