Let Your Strength Be the Strength of God Rather Than Your Strength.
Mary is our mother. Jesus gave us His Heavenly Father as Our Father, especially in the Lord’s Prayer/Our Father. But Jesus also gave us His Mother. While being crucified, “Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, ‘Woman, behold, your son.’ Then he said to the disciple, ‘Behold, your mother.’ And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.” – [John 19:26-27]
The beloved disciple, St John, stood in for all of us. And to those who question that, I ask if there is anything of Jesus’ that He did not give us? He gave us His Heavenly Father as ours. He gave us His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in Holy Communion. I really cannot think of anything that Jesus did not give us that was His. His ministry even became our ministry. “Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father.” [John 14:12]
So, how do we go to our Mother, Mary? The first devotion to Mary as everyone knows is the Rosary. Indeed, we are a Rosary group. In the Rosary, we meditate on Jesus’ life with His Mother that was with Him during His life. It is simply the best way to pray over or meditate on Jesus’ life. Who knows a son’s life more than his mother?
Our Mother is never taking all the attention. We may go to her, but only as a means to Jesus. She knows Jesus better than anyone else and can help us get closer to Him. Mary is not the ends, but the means to someone greater. Mary is great, but God is so much greater. Going directly to God is good, but being presented to God by His Mother is great. Indeed, Mary increases our graces to access Her Son, the ends of all great devotions.
Mary, as our Mother, we ask that you nurture us in our relationship with your Son. Mom, you know how best to help us; please do so and do so now! Amen.
