Teen Book Review - St. Magnus, The Last Viking
Summary:
St. Clare had everything a young girl could want: wealth, a loving family, and her faith. Clare's father wanted her to marry a handsome young man, the son of a nobleman. She wanted to please her family, but her heart called her to a life of poverty, following St. Francis and eventually forming the Poor Clares!
Review:
This delightful graphic novel offers a quick glimpse into the life of Saint Clare of Assisi. This is a fast-moving story, with an abundance of engaging illustrations, which is sure to keep the attention of even those reluctant readers. Saint Clare was born to a wealthy family and was expected to marry someone that her father chose for her. But Clare decides on a different path for her life when she becomes intrigued by the strange ways of a man from her village—Saint Francis of Assisi.
Clare is so moved by Francis’ faith, his commitment to caring for others, and his dedication to living a life of poverty that she defies her family and follows his path. Through this quick read, I learned a lot about Saint Clare, her order of sisters, and Saint Francis. Clare gave up all her earthly possessions so she could follow Christ’s example and live simply. Her story is a powerful example of following God’s will and a beautiful example for our lives.

A note from Reviewer:
As a writer and a mother, I’m always searching for wonderful Christian books for teens of all ages. I truly believe one way we can encourage teens in their faith is through fiction with positive messages, embedded in great stories. There are many fantastic Christian and Catholic teen novels out today but they can be hard to find. I’m excited to share some of these books with you.
