Where Did the Bible Come From?
Both the Republican Party and the Democratic Party publish a party platform. The party platforms are approved at each party’s convention during an election year. The party platforms lay out the vision for the country for the next four years, regardless of the election results.
In their platform, the Democrats state “that every woman should be able to access high-quality reproductive health care services, including safe and legal abortion.” In other words, abortion-on-demand as part of healthcare. The Republicans on the other hand, state that they are “proud to be the party that protects human life. They strongly oppose infanticide and support “state and federal efforts against the cruelest forms of abortion, especially dismemberment abortion procedures, in which unborn babies are literally torn apart limb from limb.”
Can abortion be a single reason not to vote for a Democrat? Yes! There is no compromise on this issue for Catholics. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has stated that “[t]he threat of abortion remains our preeminent priority because it directly attacks life itself, because it takes place within the sanctuary of the family, and because of the number of lives destroyed…. Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception.”
“Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law…Since it must be treated from conception as a person, the embryo must be defended in its integrity, cared for, and healed, as far as possible, like any other human being (CCC 2270-71, 2274).” The souls of the 60 million-plus aborted babies are guarding the gates of Heaven. We all will face them and have to answer to almighty God.
Issues like immigration, welfare, social security, and health care, while containing moral elements in whom they affect, are political issues, not moral ones. In comparison to the respect of human life, these issues are meaningless.
Politicians who support abortion are corrupt and immoral. They are blinded by their sin. They no longer seek the truth because of their pride. Their consciences are incapable of making objective moral decisions. Immoral leaders pass immoral laws. They cannot be trusted. Neither can bishops and priests be trusted who do not preach that abortion is the preeminent priority and that a vote for a candidate who supports abortion puts your soul in absolute mortal danger.
A candidate cannot claim any allegiance to their Catholic faith while at the same time support abortion. As a Catholic, you cannot vote for a candidate who supports abortion.
