The Demonic in Our Every Day Language - Part 2
In a very short time it will be Easter. All those “Catholics” who never attend Mass any other Sunday of the year, will be in the pews. They will probably be in your seat! You, one of the faithful Catholics, who attend Church every Sunday, every week.
These people will come out in droves, dressed to the nines. They will don their fancy bonnets and dresses, purses and shoes. They will come to worship, because; after all, it is the “thing to do” on Easter morning, isn’t it?
I know, for many of us, it is “the thing to do” every Sunday morning. I mean, is there a more chic or swank way to start your week than by reveling in the Glory of our Savior, and praising our Awesome God!
Unfortunately for some, the second Sunday of Easter will come and the resumption of sleeping in, soccer games, and vegging out will resume as the obligatory activities for the day of rest. The efforts and immenseness of Mass and participating in the Sacrament of the Eucharist will be lost.
It isn’t surprising then, that some of us, “practicing Catholics” will greet these strangers, these prodigals with disdain. We may sneer or cast judgmental glances their way. After all, these lost souls are trespassing and assuming our regular seating and parking assignments, aren’t they? We, the faithful ones, that come to Sunday mass without fail.
DON’T DO IT!
Welcome these people, these strangers, these prodigals. Let them know how happy we are to see them, how we have missed them, and how much we need them. Smile at them. Embrace, accept and cherish their presence. Let them see your light. Let them feel and encounter the reason you are in the pew each and every week! Shine all your glory on them. And then maybe, on that second Sunday of Easter, they will be back. They will come, and on that second Sunday of Easter you will receive the gift of a new faithful neighbor. A wonderful new brother or sister in Christ; to sit by, fellowship with and love! Isn’t that what the real and true Easter Miracle is all about anyway?
Happy Easter Everyone!
