Where Are You Lord? Have you Abandoned Us?
Where are you, Lord? Can’t you see our world is in desperate need of your help? Have you abandoned us?
I must confess, dear God that my faith in you is teetering on the brink. There is so much suffering in our world! What are you doing about it?!
Dear God, help us to see your hand. Help us to hold onto you. Please hear and answer our prayers to you! I believe in your goodness, but where is your goodness now?
Little Faith
I realize dear God my faith is weak. The events taking place in our world go well beyond my power of comprehension. What I do not understand causes doubt and confusion. I am frightened.
Dear God, why can’t I find comfort in your words, your graces, your blessings? Is it because I have not put my life completely in your hands? Do I not trust you as I should? I pray and pray and pray, and yet it seems as though you are not answering.
Oh, to have the strength of the faith of the saints! They prayed and persevered in their trials and tribulations. They did not give up despite temptations. Dear God, the temptation to abandon my faith is strong, but where can I turn?
The Way
Your Word became incarnate to show us the way. Dear God, through your Son Jesus Christ you’ve laid out the path for us to follow in life on earth so that we may have eternal life in Heaven. When we walk with Jesus, we are not led astray.
“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light,” [Matthew 11:28-30] said your Son.
And yet, dear God the burdens of the world are great. The obstacles and temptations lead many astray and into despair. Please help us to find your loving mercy, made manifest in Jesus. By the power of the Holy Spirit strengthen our faith so that your love and mercy manifest in each of us.
The Truth and the Life
Dear God, creator of the world, all that which is good comes from you. I know you are not the author of evil, and yet, evil exists. Your Son suffered the evils of the world to save the world through faith, hope, and especially love. Sadly, evil continues to penetrate and flourish, hardening the hearts of many.
My heart is troubled, dear God. Please keep my heart open for your loving goodness to flow in me and through me. For it is through your love in the heart of humanity our world will be saved and peace will reign. Dear God, help us to recognize your goodness so we are never without hope! Cast away the fears that prevent us from fully embracing you. Help us to see the Way, the Truth, and Life you want us to have and to share as your faithful stewards. Amen.
