The Pharisee and the Tax Collector
Dear God,
I draw my breath from you, O God. "Yahweh God shaped man from the soil of the ground and blew the breath of life into his nostrils, and man became a living being." Gn 2:7.
And I begin my prayer always by proclaiming--presence of YHWH. I breathe in with the first syllable and breathe out with the second. For your Holy Name cannot be pronounced by tongue--but by our breath can we give what reverence we can. When at holy Mass, an encounter with you gives me hope of forgiveness and graces to travel the road you give me.
May I travel that road with courage and strength for there are those waiting by side roads and behind sign posts to throw me off your road.
"Bend my heart to your instructions, not to selfish gain. Avert my eyes from pointless images, by your word give me life." Psalm 119: 36-37.
May I be steadfast in battle, may I never go astray from your precepts.
So that I can prosper as a warrior in your army Lord, give me the grace to withstand all taunts and evils. May I one day wake up near the streams of heavenly water falls, that place where the grasses grow with your purified water--that I might see my family, relatives, friends, and above all, share that glorious communion with the angels and saints of God. Where I might wander across blessed roads seeing perhaps some saints along the road sides discussing how they came to understand Christ and benevolence. May I never be detoured from your love. May I seek you always in everything I say and do. For without you I wander aimlessly in an abysmal forest. YHWH you are my life, my love, my rightful joy--for without you I am nothing and will come to nothing. Only with you can I breathe.
We ask through Christ our Savior.
