Pain and Sacrifice
Today there is nothing but clouds over the bay- a darkness which makes life today heavy with deepening dark thoughts. Maybe it is the pandemic with no going out into a different realm which covers us like a tent.
Last night was completely different. There were streaks of color splashing and changing against the waves of the bay.
What made made the twilight transformation into a breathtaking palette of pinks, oranges, yellow, each shade changing, deepening? The answer is the lingering clouds and it dawned on me that without those clouds up there, we would not see all those colors. The clouds give them a backdrop; a clear sky cannot reflect colors.
We don’t welcome clouds in our lives; we endure them, never entirely forgetting them. Yet once we have overcome those dark clouds we have a completely new backdrop, a new perspective to our lives. We are changed, but there is an added dimension to our character that we would never have known, had we not experienced and survived the dark clouds that appeared in our life.
Change is gradual; it seldom happens overnight. The blue in the sky will peep out, maybe in the late afternoon; one can always hope. The question is: what can we do to reach the majestic sunlight hidden behind the clouds?
Christ is always depicted as “the light of the world.” It is toward him that we must move forward; crossing our hands in prayer, in repentance, in righteousness. He has shown us the way, now we must respond and tomorrow will be a new brighter day.
