Adam or Eve: Who is At Fault?
With more than half a million Americans living homeless, many concerned citizens are wondering what can be done to make a difference. With Easter in a few days, many people are thinking of ways to help the least fortunate in our communities. Many people are celebrating the mercy of forgiveness or the hope for a better tomorrow.
Are you looking for ways to spread this spirit of joy to others?
Here are 5 ideas that anyone can use to help those facing homelessness this Easter. Pick one and take action today...
1.) Hygiene Items. Oral hygiene is a big challenge when living homeless. New toothbrushes and toothpaste are popular items. When someone is living homeless they are exposed to the sun for most of the day, so sun block is another important item to remember.
2.) Jackets and blankets. Even in the spring temperatures drop very low at night and having a warm jacket and blankets is critical. Hooded jackets and sweaters are also popular to provide protection from the sun and a covering when it rains.
3.) Give out new socks. Socks are one of the most requested items from those living homeless. Most homeless walk everywhere they go and having clean socks without holes makes a big difference. Clean socks also help keep their feet warm and dry at night.
4.) Water and snacks. It is easy to become dehydrated on the streets. Give out bottles of water or better yet reusable water bottles with filters. Provide high-calorie, high-protein, non-perishable snacks. Offer packets of peanuts and beef jerky. It is challenging while living on the streets to get the required amount of calories for each day.
5.) Offer easy to read books. Books are a great way to keep your mind occupied when you have no other forms of entertainment and relaxation.
Resurection day is for everyone. In celebration of Easter, assemble the above items into gift baskets and hand them out to those in need in your community.
Stop and say "hello" to the homeless as you give them a gift basket, and let those who often feel invisible and forgotten know that they matter, that they exist.
