I Have a PLAN!
In previous articles, I have examined a few ways that God spoke to His people in the Bible - whether it be from a burning bush, a whisper, or through the written Word.
Hopefully, you are beginning to see how God speaks to us today and are taking steps to tune your spiritual 'hearing aid' to a higher level to open yourself to the Holy Spirit's frequency.
If our Holy Spirit Antenna is up and working, we will hear God speaking to us in the most ordinary and unsuspecting ways and from the mouths of the most ordinary people.
God even speaks through my husband sometimes! Really, He does - and more miraculous than that is the fact that the Holy Spirit will give me a 'you better listen' nudge when my husband says something I should be paying attention to.
My husband and I traveled around in an RV for about three years in very close quarters. One morning, I was busy - as usual - while Bob slept in. After he got up for breakfast, our dog got caught between me and the table, tripping me and almost causing me to spill something. I snapped at the dog, “Get out of the way, Jake!”
Bob said- ‘nicely,' - "Be patient, Elizabeth, be patient.”
I wanted to snap back, “Easy for you to say, Mister Stay-in-Bed while I care for the animals and get coffee on!”
But before I could, the Holy Spirit stepped in with a whisper of, “You better listen, and learn! Swallow your pride, smile, and continue to hand your husband that cup of coffee and ‘try not to spill it.’"
Folks, do not pretend you are wonderful, perfect people all the time. God knows better - and so do you.
As much as I hate to admit it, we still live a similar lifestyle today - though now his back and health are deteriorating, and I still have the same morning chores to do, in addition to a job.
But, it is wise of me to realize what happens when I allow myself to become robotic, stressed, and - worst of all - a whiner.
So by grace, I get up early enough to first get some We time with God, through journaling and getting into my Bible and spiritual books. I also say a rosary with EWTN most mornings as I dress or take my walks. This routine has made my life 100% better, and my day is at least 80% worse when I do not take the time to find the I Am or hear Him speak to my heart in the morning.
God also uses this We time to help me know the importance and necessity of We time with my husband. He encourages me to make sure there are no distractions and to let him know how much I love finding time to be with him.
And, just as much as we should be praising and thanking God for all He does, when I praise and thank Bob for all he does, just like God, Bob will do all he can to get more praise to come his way.
Try it, ladies - it does work! Oh, and you men too—you already know, “if Momma ain’t happy, you ain’t happy either!"
So, Beloved of God, when we praise others, we praise God's work. When we listen to others, we may just be hearing God speak just what we need to hear if we humble ourselves.
