On Detachment
There’s an episode of The Chosen that features Jesus dancing with the disciples at the Wedding at Cana. I couldn’t help but smile at this picture! The show depicted a great feast of joy, laughter, and of course, His first miracle.
There are many lessons in this Gospel story, but the one that resonates most right now to me is that disciples dance!
Because often, we forget that Jesus enjoyed himself. He ate meals with the disciples, enjoyed himself at weddings, and probably even had some hobbies like fishing.
His life wasn’t all seriousness, work and prayer. He had moments of joy, leisure, feasting, and fun -- even as He was doing His work. He truly had a full and abundant life of family and friendship, fun and joy, purposeful work, generosity, rest and solitude, and prayerful union with the Father.
Might we emulate that balance?
We’re called to be like Christ, but that means the whole picture of Christ. The Christ of abundant life, joy and fruitfulness.
This episode was a reminder for me that discipleship is a balance… and that disciples dance!
