Good Faith Efforts
Have you ever gone through a time in your life that was difficult, exhausting, and trying? Maybe you’re feeling burnout like so many others right now, and it’s hard to “stay in the game” of a faithful life when you feel so depleted and in need of a break.
My season of life right now is an active “pouring out,” but with that, inevitably comes a lot of activity and a lot of exhaustion, and even some burnout.
I read a recent article that reminded me that it’s one thing to stay faithful when you’re energized, life is in balance, and things feel happy and joyful. It’s another thing to stay faithful when you feel just the opposite. We’re called to stay faithful through it all. It's like walking the path of carrying a cross with a weak body and mind. All God asks of us is to stay faithful to carrying it.
The truth is we all have seasons where we are less balanced. We all probably experience burnout on something in our lives. Our faith can help us get through those times. My experience in a relationship with God is that His message is usually one of the following:
Persevere.
Find rest in me.
Come to me if you are burdened.
Take my yoke.
My strength is sufficient.
Come away with me to a quiet place. (vacation, retreat, solitude, prayer)
Carry your cross. It’s OK if you fall.
Patience and endurance, my daughter.
Learn to say no!
Might you hear these words in your own burnout and find renewed rest, strength, encouragement, and perseverance?
