What more could you ask for?
When Jesus ascended into Heaven, the apostles were commissioned to spread the Good News. Indeed, the only way to make disciples of all nations is by first sharing the Good News, or the Gospel. In our day, we resolve that this is no longer needed. Everyone has heard of Jesus, so we are off the hook. WRONG!
If someone has rejected the Gospel, do you think it is because they truly know the Gospel? Indeed, they likely have a warped idea of what the Gospel is, especially with the Christian hypocrites that they see, either in real-life, news, or social media. Face it; we Christians are hypocrites. We sin when we know God’s teachings. But that is a perfect place for the redemption of the Gospel.
As disciples of Jesus, we are called to spread the Good News. Is there any better news than sin and death have been defeated and we simply need to join Jesus in order to be on the winning side? Is there anyone better than you to know how to speak the Good News to your family and friends? A stranger might speak the words better, but you know your friend better to truly speak to them.
It is difficult and you might be martyred for it in a small way. But better to be a martyr in a small way trying to give Jesus to others than keep Him to yourself and watch your family and friends go to Hell. Indeed, their resting place may be yours if you do not repent of keeping Jesus to yourself.
St John the Baptist, you lost your head as a martyr for truth. Help us to have the strength to be little martyrs for Jesus and hopefully bring more people home to Heaven. Amen.
