How many have been lost by your inaction?
“There is nothing hidden that will not be made known.”
Jesus tells us this in three Gospels: Matthew, Mark, and Luke. So, it is important. And we need to see how it applies to us. When we sin, we commonly want to hide our sin. We feel ashamed and rightfully so. However, if we think we can hide our sin, we are greatly mistaken. We may be able to hide it from our neighbor, but not from God.
We focus on the negative side with sin, as we should. But we must also think of the positive. If we have done good works and shown God great love in private, that will also be made known. We should not try to keep our love of God and neighbor completely private, but the love of God in our hearts will shine for all to see.
We need to be aware that our innermost secrets, good and bad, will be made known. Indeed, God already knows them. And while that may be scary to think, it also makes bringing them to God easier. He already knows. And the bad we can get rid of. Yes, completely get rid of through Confession. Then, all we have left is the good in our hearts.
Jesus, help us to see Your love waiting to rid us of our sins. After all, that is why You died on the Cross. Cleanse us Lord. Amen.
