Advent: Hoping for in the Fulfillment of God's Promises
It’s a beautiful autumn of glorious colors where I live and it naturally calls forth praise of the Lord and His wondrous works. As I was on a walk one day, I got to thinking about all of the seasons, of the year and of our lives, in which the glory of God shines through.
In the autumn, the glory of God shines forth in the brilliant tapestry of red, orange and yellow leaves on trees. In the winter, the glory of God shines forth in the sparkle of a blanket of snow, the stillness of the chilly air, and the crackling fire. In the spring, the glory of God shines forth in the blooming flowers and blossom trees, and vivid green grass and pastures. In the summer, the glory of God shines forth in the glimmering warmth of the sunshine and water flowing in a lake or ocean. Each season speaks to us of God’s glory.
This is also true in our lives. In the feasting and harvest times of our life, the glory of God shines through in abundance and generosity. In our joyful times, the glory of God shines forth in happy hearts and gladness. In our desert and famine times, the glory of God shines through in our poverty and dependence on God. In the mourning times of our life, the glory of God shines forth in the comfort we receive from others. In our anxious times, the glory of God shines forth in our moments of peace. In our busy times, the glory of God shines forth in our periods of rest and recuperation. In our waiting times, the glory of God shines forth in our patience. In our sick times, the glory of God shines forth in our caring for one another and His healing of our infirmities.
In all seasons of the year, we can find the glory of God in creation. In all seasons of our life, we can find the glory of God in our souls.
Consider the season of your life and the glory of God shining through in it.
