At the Intersection of Sinners and Saints
The biggest problem we face today is not COVID. It’s not healthcare either, or hunger, or poverty, or wars, or politics. It’s much bigger and happens in a place much closer on scale seemingly much smaller. Our biggest problem today is the heart.
You may have seen that coming. Let’s face it: society is filled with too many opinions these days, and many not too kind. We must seem to God like bickering children who have lost sight of Him and our purpose to love one another. We have removed God from government, marriage, school, and many homes.
When God is gone from government, society changes its priorities and money starts to rule. When God is not part of marriage, they don’t last. They’re filled with self instead of self-sacrifice. When God is gone from schools, children learn facts with feelings according to an agenda, instead of facts with truth according to righteousness. If God is removed from homes, we become self-centered, busying ourselves with activities and collections and self-satisfactions instead of worship and love and peace. If God is gone If God is completely gone, hope will be too.
How can hearts be filled with love when we’ve removed Love from the equation? Everything and everyone is divided these days and we’re crumbling. We’re primed for attack from enemies both foreign and spiritual. If being with God grants us blessing and security, what could being without Him mean? If we don’t turn this around soon, we’ll face times even worse than these.
So how can we turn this around? Things seem bleak but there’s always hope. We must remain faithful and continue to pray, but we can’t have faith without works! Vote according to God’s teachings, speak the Truth, and support those vying for change that will allow God back into our lives more fully. Peacefully and respectfully share your concerns with those who will listen and continue to participate in Mass. In everything we do, love! (1 Cor 16:14) The Mass is the highest form of worship we have and the Eucharist is powerful. Let’s continue to come to Him in the most holy way we can and not remove God anymore but invite Him back into our society.
