Prayers for the Divorced
How the Foundation Began
In 2015, the Mercedarian friars of Philadelphia attended The World Meeting of Families when Pope Francis came to the United States for a visit. The charism of the meeting was all about
"the famliy" and it's importance as the domestic church not only of the Catholic faith but of the world.
After the friars attended, they felt a nudge from the Holy Spirit to do something in terms of making outreach to families. One of the friars had an idea to start a foundaton. Before they decide which direction to go for the foundattion, they took it to vote for one of two areas. One being "families in crisis" and the other for "human trafficking outreach". After the votes were cast, they decide to aim their focus on the majority vote by the friars. That vote was to create a ministry for families facing both crisis and adversity.
The Work of SRNF
The St. Raymond Nonnatus Foundation has been around since 2015, and active ministry began in 2017. A first Director was hired and stayed in the position for a short time, and then I came in as Director at the beginning of 2018. Since that time we have made special outreach in the following areas: families in crisis, marriage enrichment, and for Catholics affected by divorce and separation. It has been a joy to help those individuals and families needing our prayer, our care, and our outreach.
The foundation offers programs, podcasts, priestly consultations, and of course, on-going prayer. If you or someone you know is a familiy going through crisis and trauma, be sure to go to the website at Nonnatus.org. The foundation offers a free pastoral consultation with a Mercedarian friar. The email address is director.srnf@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you!
