The Life of Saint Joseph
St Joseph was the husband of the Virgin Mary and foster father of Jesus. He was a hardworking carpenter and the Scripture describe him as "a righteous man" (Matthew 1:18).
When he found out Mary was pregnant, he did not yet know she was conceived by the Holy Spirit and knew that women could be stoned to death if accused of adultery. Joseph never judged Mary or blamed her but wanted to make sure she was safe. He did his best to hide her from the public. An angel came to Joseph and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins," he did as the angel told him and took Mary as his wife." So Joseph took Mary to a different country until the Angel said it was safe to return. He was there with Mary in Bethleham when Jesus was born.
Joseph always took care of Mary and treated Jesus like his own son. His only concern in life was ensuring they were safe and protected. Joseph died before Jesus was in the public ministry. He is the patron saint of a happy death because he peacefully died with Jesus and Mary by his side, who loved him very much.
