The (Selfish) Ten Commandments
"The Times They Are a-Changin' "
There are so many opinions, views and ideas out there that one no longer knows what to believe or follow. What was acceptable years ago, is now not so and should not be done or said. And what was wrong then, is now OK and every one does it anyway.
Standards and values are changing, and so are habits and fashions. Social media is full of ideas on all kinds of subjects of importance and not so important; and everyone is shouting at each other trying to influence each other and no one is listening it seems.
So what are we to do? Who do we follow, or believe? What is the right thing to do?
Imagine you are swimming in the sea, or lying on a boat soaking the sun, and there is a strong under current underneath you. Unless you are careful, you will drift away. You will go with the flow.
You need to be strongly anchored to a base, or be out of the strong current, if you are not to be swept by its flow of persuasion.
If it was wrong to steal, or lie, or commit adultery, or whatever else, thousands of years ago; then it is still wrong today. It has not changed through the passage of time. It has not changed and become right because fashions have changed and a lot of people do it anyway.
When God wrote the Commandments, He did so to explain right from wrong. He did not give us a set of proposals or suggestions to consider and debate and change at will to cater for our selfish desires.
The times may well be a-changing' but it does not follow that we should change with them.
God did not, and does not, change according to the fashion and customs of the times.
Why should we?
The choice is simple. Accept God as your anchor or drift with the strong current.
