Saved By The Bells: A New Look Evangelism Through The Richness Of The Church
Unlimited Data Plan
If you have watched television at all in the past several months you have been bombarded with commercials about new cell phone plans. The companies are rushing to offer people more features at less cost. Now companies will offer you a free phone, unlimited data, and charge you under thirty dollars a month. Does this sound like a deal to you?
Many of you will answer yes. Yes, yes, yes. I can not believe it. However, before you get too excited let me tell you about a better deal. I can promise you free unlimited data, no dropped calls, every time you call someone will listen to you, and the price you ask. The price is amazing. It is absolutely free of charge. There is never a charge. In fact, you may even get a reward at the end of your contract- eternal life.
How come when you put it that way, people just do not rush to Church. Obviously to most people you can talk to God 24/7. He will listen and if you are in tune with me, you will be able to hear his answers. The best thing is that the reward from doing this would be to live with him for eternity.
In ages when companies are saying you can use their service for thirty dollars a month without a contract, God is offering his plan with a contract for free. Which is better?
I started thinking about this when I was talking to a few students the other day. Their conversations were fascinating.
I used to be Catholic but now I am a Christian. She went on to explain that Catholics were not Christian because they believed in the Pope instead of God.
This is a common misconception and could be easily cleared up if you would talk to God in prayer. Obviously, Catholics are Christians. The standard to say Catholics are not Christians would be ridiculous. To demonstrate how ridiculous, the student said, this is what the Bible says- Catholics are not Christians.
This was mentioned in the conversation as being true. The difficulty is that the Bible only exists today because of the Catholic and Orthodox Churches (The Apostolic Churches). Therefore, the concept that you can prove the Church as not being Christian through the Bible that was authorized through the Church does not pass the logic test at all.
Another conversation that took place on that same day was with a student who said, “ I do not really go to church much anymore. I do not think you have to go.” Several people agreed with the student and then they said, “Maybe I would go to Church if it was a fun Church.”
Brother and sisters, do you go to Church for fun? Do you go there to be entertained? If you are, is that the real reason for the Church? What difference is Church then going to a movie, going to a football game, or going to a circus? The purpose of the Church should be praise and thanksgiving to God. We go to Church to be in a community of believers. This helps ourselves and others while we are here on earth.
We wear masks not to get COVID, but we will not go to Church to get forgiveness for our sins?
Another student said that they did not like the Church because people there were sinners?
Well with that logic we wouldn’t go to the hospital because it is full of sick people and we would not go out of our house now because we might get in an accident or catch COVID.
Brother and sisters, this problem is serious because we are actually allowing our children to believe in some very interesting, totally counterproductive theology, and we are not helping them or ourselves one bit.
Maybe we should look to get on our knees right now and pray to the Lord. Ask for forgiveness and guidance on how to correctly teach our families. Remember, his plan is a contract. It is free and it lasts forever and ever. Now, does this not sound like the plan for you? Amen
