For most of the last part of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, there appeared to be a conflict between the Church and Science. Some people have turned to science to answer their questions. Before you do this maybe we need to relook at exactly what science really is and how we come up with science.
Today questioning does not appear to be at the same forefront as it once was when it comes to the field of Science. In fact, if you question the controlling thought of the day and dare to come up with a different conclusion when observing the same information- you are canceled. This brings up two questions
What is science?
Why is questioning important when it comes to the field of science?
First, what is science? According to Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary, the definition of science is:
"knowledge attained through study or practice," or
"knowledge covering general truths of the operation of general laws, esp. as obtained and tested through scientific method [and] concerned with the physical world."
Second, science is based on human observations and then the use of the scientific method. Please note that this methodology requires testing or questioning.
Observation and formulation of a question: This is the first step of a scientific method. In order to start one, an observation has to be made into any observable aspect or phenomena of the universe and a question needs to be asked pertaining to that aspect. For example, you can ask, “Why is the sky black at night? or “Why is air invisible?”
Data Collection and Hypothesis: The next step involved in the scientific method is to collect all related data and formulate a hypothesis based on the observation. The hypothesis could be the cause of the phenomena, its effect, or its relation to any other phenomena.
Testing the hypothesis: After the hypothesis is made, it needs to be tested scientifically. Scientists do this by conducting experiments. The aim of these experiments is to determine whether the hypothesis agrees with or contradicts the observations made in the real world. The confidence in the hypothesis increases or decreases based on the result of the experiments.
Analysis and Conclusion: This step involves the use of proper mathematical and other scientific procedures to determine the results of the experiment. Based on the analysis, the future course of action can be determined. If the data found in the analysis is consistent with the hypothesis, it is accepted. If not, then it is rejected or modified and analyzed again.
Now that you have a much better understanding of the role of science let us try to apply to some articles about how it relates to the concept of Church and Science.
Today to emphasize the warfare that is currently taking place in left-wing media about religion and science, I would like to bring out these articles. The story is not about the Catholic Church but it is about people, but it easily could be all about the Church because the conclusions reached in these articles actually support the Church’s teachings. The story is an excellent piece of media trying to take down the Church (religion) with some interesting science. However, this time I would like for you to read it and draw a much different conclusion.
Steve Olson in his article, The Royal We, published in the Atlantic, May 2002 the following statement, “The mathematical study of genealogy indicates that everyone in the world is descended from Nefertiti and Confucius, and everyone of European ancestry is descended from Muhammad and Charlemagne.” On the surface, this sounds ridiculous, but actually speaking could this even be true? Let us relook at the information that was given and how it actually proves something entirely different. Could science actually prove the Bible to be true?
He also concluded that the majority of American presidents were also of royal descent, as were many of the well-known families of Europe. This research was supported by an article in the Daily Mail by Snejana Farberov on 4 August 2012 entitled, Is ruling in the genes? All presidents bar one are directly descended from a medieval English king. In 2012, a 7th-grade student, 12-year-old Californian genealogist BridgeAnne d'Avignon discovered that 42 out of 43 US presidents have King John of England as a common ancestor. She made this discovery by checking back on both their male and female lines of descent. Before this discovery, only 22 of the Presidents had been tied to European royal families.
Back to Olson’s article, Olson commented that his source, Mark Humphrys began to notice something odd. Whenever a reliable family tree was available, almost anyone of European ancestry turned out to be descended from English royalty—even such unlikely people as Hermann Göring and Daniel Boone. At this point, it becomes very interesting Daniel Boone's other famous relatives include singers Pat Boone, Cole Porter, and Debbie Boone. Also, Daniel Boone and this author are distant cousins as well as cousins to Charles Darwin. (More later on this relationship and how that relates to Mr. Charles Darwin proves evolution (Darwin’s Theory) to be false and how it proves the Bible to be true.)
Humphrys began to think that such descent was the rule rather than the exception in the Western world, even if relatively few people had the documents to demonstrate it.
Here where the scientist or mathematicians produce some really bad science to make some very outlandish and inaccurate claims. First, the idea that virtually anyone with a European ancestor descends from English royalty seems bizarre, but it accords perfectly with some recent research done by Joseph Chang, a statistician at Yale University.
What, because the science of facts does not fit our reality, we are going to change the reality to fit our facts? Charleslagame was not everyone’s common ancestor. Genealogy is not the science of math, it is not the science of DNA swabs, it is the science of actually and accurately discovering who your ancestors really were not guessing or saying something to be true because of a math model or something else.
The mathematics of our ancestry is exceedingly complex, because the number of our ancestors increases exponentially, not linearly. These numbers are manageable in the first few generations—two parents, four grandparents, eight great-grandparents, sixteen great-great-grandparents—but they quickly spiral out of control. Go back forty generations, or about a thousand years, and each of us theoretically has more than a trillion direct ancestors—a figure that far exceeds the total number of human beings who have ever lived.
A new study (2013) has confirmed that not only are all people of European ancestry related to Charlemagne but we are all related to each other, with only going back 1000 years.
“A genetic survey concludes that all Europeans living today are related to the same set of ancestors who lived 1,000 years ago. And you wouldn’t have to go back much further to find that everyone in the world is related to each other.
“We find it remarkable because it’s counterintuitive to us,” Graham Coop, an evolutionary biologist at the University of California at Davis, told NBC News. “But it’s not totally unexpected, based on genetic analysis.”
Family researchers have long known that if you go back far enough, everyone with a European connection ends up being related to Charlemagne. The concept was laid out scientifically more than a decade ago. Now Coop and University of Southern California geneticist Peter Ralph have come up with the evidence. Their findings were published on Tuesday in the open-access journal PLOS Biology.
“Anyone alive 1,000 years ago who left any descendants will be an ancestor of every European,” the researchers say in an FAQ file about their study. “While the world population is larger than the European population, the rate of growth of number of ancestors quickly dwarfs this difference, and so every human is likely related genealogically to every other human over only a slightly longer time period.”
…The cold, hard genetic evidence points to a warm and fuzzy fact. “It underlines the commonality of all of our histories,” Coop said. “You don’t have to go back many generations to find that we’re all related to each other.”
Background: Charles Darwin and I share very many distant relatives (7)19th great grandfathers, (8) 18th great grandfathers, (1) 21st great grandfather, (1) 28th great grandfather, and (1) 31st great grandfather as well as corresponding inter-related families between the 31st and 19th generations.
Observation 1: Charles Darwin, Father of Evolution, believed that man and woman evolved over millions of years from lower forms of life. This would mean that the common ancestors of people (if we are millions of years old would have taken place millions of years ago and not as scientists have stated 1000 years ago)
Observation 2: Common ancestors coming about 1,000 years ago means that the hypothesis of man and woman being millions of years old is impossible and that the history of mankind does not go back only a fraction of that way.
Observation 3: The Sunday before Christmas each year in the Maronite Catholic Church is Genealogy Sunday. The following scripture is read each year:
Matthew 1:1-17
The Genealogy of Jesus the Messiah
The Apostle said:
An account of the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham. Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, and Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Aram, and Aram the father of Aminadab, and Aminadab the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of Salmon, and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of King David. And David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah, and Solomon the father of Rehoboam, and Rehoboam the father of Abijah, and Abijah the father of Asaph, and Asaph the father of Jehoshaphat, and Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, and Joram the father of Uzziah, and Uzziah the father of Jotham, and Jotham the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah, and Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, and Manasseh the father of Amos, and Amos the father of Josiah, and Josiah the father of Jechoniah and his brothers, at the time of the deportation to Babylon. And after the deportation to Babylon: Jechoniah was the father of Salathiel, and Salathiel the father of Zerubbabel, and Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, and Abiud the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the father of Azor, and Azor the father of Zadok, and Zadok the father of Achim, and Achim the father of Eliud, and Eliud the father of Eleazar, and Eleazar the father of Matthan, and Matthan the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called the Messiah. So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David to the deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the deportation to Babylon to the Messiah, fourteen generations. This is the truth. Peace be with you.
Conclusion: Darwin had it wrong, wrong by centuries. His math does not add up. In fact, his family proves him wrong. There is no way to have that many common relationships (mine and his) if we were truly millions of years old and there has never been a recorded instance of an animal evolving and becoming human in recorded history. Therefore, science proves that evolution can not be considered factual or supported by data. Read the Bible, study your history, and when next you are asked who are you or tell me a little about yourself-talk the truth, tell them about your extended family. We are the sum total of the family that came before us, not the sum total of numbers of people. We had the first common ancestor- Adam and Eve and we have the last common ancestor about 1,000 years ago. Brothers and sisters let us live our lives today so that we can again see our relationship with God and be able to leave with him for the rest of eternity.
