I was awakened by a knock at my door. I was alone and very cold.
A Year of Hope with so many obstacles
As with every New Years the ideal synopsis is adhering to a self promise that usually lasts only for a short trek. But in a deeper quest most people need to pray for an end to violence, lawlessness, and shootings.
One time, as we were growing up, the thought of living in fear of adversaries existed in the 1940’s with air-raid wardens walking the streets at night reminding the men to put out their cigarettes. Practice for safety from enemy planes, which never occurred, to get under our desks in the classrooms just in case another air attack might take us by surprise.
Its been 80 years since Pearl Harbor and the surprise attack by the Japanese which put our nation into WW II. Outside of 9/11 we have been secure from enemy attacks. However, the modern infringement of violence is not foreign enemies, it is right in our neighborhoods, mostly by gangs shooting and killing people for control of drugs and geography in the neighborhoods.
Back in the 1920’s fighting for territories over alcohol, drugs, and groups like the Mafia was the greatest threat for families which might be in the cross-fire. Today, far too many children have been killed by stray shooting, or violence with guns against school children over reasons we may never learn.
Voters attempt to put power back into Legislatures’ hands who seek to put law and order into motion giving society a feeling of peace and tranquility. Watching the current news and with all the anarchy displayed by those who want to change our rules to govern in a judicious manner the need for more than just thoughts of changing habits is essential.
The basic essence for this New Years celebration and the “what are you going to give up or change?” This decision should culminate with at least discovering the need to be concerned with the status of our society, those whom we voted for and the future of our communities, our nation, and the world that is running out of control. We no longer can stand as the preverbal ostrich with its head in the sand.
Make 2022 an important time to pray for divine intervention and work to put God back into our lives. Pray and fight for the rights of people and freedoms we seem to be losing.
