3 Life-Changing Questions to Guide Your New Year

Some years bring answers. Some years bring questions. This past year brought me 3 provoking life-changing questions that I heard in different reflections. I am using these questions to guide the new year:
- If Jesus was sitting next to me, would I still be doing this?
- If a poor person was standing next to me, would I still have this/buy this?
- In light of eternity, does this matter?
These 3 questions help me with three things in the spiritual life: 1) conversion of my behavior to what is more Christ-like, 2) detachment from possessions and moderation of consumption, and 3) greater inner peace - less worrying about things that don’t matter to God.
Many of you may struggle with these same things in a world which seems to thrive on sin, lots of stuff, over-consumption of material goods, and constant anxiety and preoccupation about the things of Earth.
Perhaps these questions could serve you too in the new year.
