What would your Father say?
The whole month of November is dedicated to the holy souls in Purgatory. While these souls are not in Heaven, they will be. And to be so close to their eternal goal and not being able to partake of it is more suffering than we will ever know on Earth. “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no heart has imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him.” [1 Corinthians 2:9]
While we do not know, the holy souls in Purgatory know. And not having that great glory of Heaven is a torment to them. Yet, they are incapable of helping themselves reach their eternal goal. And that is where we come in. We can pray and sacrifice for the holy souls in Purgatory. And if we are able to get them out of Purgatory, imagine how much they will want to repay us in their prayers!
These holy souls are needing to be purged of their uncleanliness. “[N]othing unclean” [Revelation 21:27] can enter Heaven. And if we die without being perfect, we NEED Purgatory. Indeed if there was no Purgatory, we would be destined for Hell. Thank you, God for Purgatory! We do not have to die perfect. Then again, if their torment is worse than any suffering we can know on Earth, how much we should strive to reach Heaven without any Purgatory.
The holy souls in Purgatory can help us with that. If we pray for them, we can be assured of their prayers for us. And having them as constant intercessors for us as we constantly intercede for them will help us grow in holiness in order that we might reach Heaven with no Purgatory. Imagine a person dying and then when about to be sent to Purgatory a multitude of souls in Heaven pleaded for you to God because they were released from Purgatory based on this person’s prayers and sacrifices during their life. Surely, God will answer their pleas and allow them to joyfully bring that soul into Heaven with them and God for all of eternity.
Mary, as Mother of all, please grant a reprieve to the holy souls in Purgatory and bring them ever closer to eternal happiness. Amen.
