International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day
We Americans have many freedoms which are often taken for granted, not the least of which is freedom of speech. Lately, it seems more and more is being censored on social media. You have to go directly to Christian channels or pages to find a wholesome message suitable for families. Thankfully, there’s sites like Common Sense Media to help discern some of those things.
It’s even difficult to find search results on Google from a Catholic perspective if it doesn’t fit the narrative. Too often Wikipedia or some other secular site will fill the first few results, which is not going to have the authority to tell us about our faith! Those answers often state things like ‘Catholics believe,’ or ‘the belief that…” Truly, if we ask about the Catholic doctrine, we should have a more solid answer not hidden under phrasing that assumes it’s just a belief by some.
The media and its drivers have done a fantastic job of changing our country from its Christian-based foundation to a complete free-for-all where all do what they feel is right. Judges 21:25 says, “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in their own sight.” This couldn’t be more true! We now live in a world where you can marry anyone, be any gender, and even kill your own children. The horrors of all that goes on in our country are not unlike the stories of the old testament. Instead of sacrificing our children to Molech (Jer 32:35), we destroy them in the name of convenience or even fear or coercion. It’s the same story with a new cover. We are savages again and godless as a nation.
Those few faithful remaining are hard-pressed to bring goodness back to the country. It seems the devil is working hard against us. Priests will seldom be brave enough to preach the Word of Truth for fear of offending the paying congregation. Religious Education Directors instruct volunteer parent catechists to not teach controversial topics such as gender identity and abortion. Instead, they focus on teaching ‘good works’ through charity and kindness. While those are good things, all the good deeds in the world are not saving souls if the Truth cannot be boldly taught.
Love is not about being kind and gentle all the time. If my child runs to cross the road when a truck is coming, I’m grabbing his arm to keep him safe. I may hurt him but I would let him get crushed by the truck. Gentle correction has turned too timid and now we’re so outnumbered and censored that we’re offensive and abusive if we speak the truth. They say our ways are hurtful but they are blind to the injury sin causes.
We must stand strong, stand firm, and be more stubborn in our ways. This can be done with love, but we must remember that love is NOT tolerance. Love is Truth and Truth does not change because of some fleeting feeling or trend. We must remain Catholic and shine brightly!
