It can be overwhelming at times for those who love the practicing the faith to decide which books to read, the best Novenas, prayers, which YouTube channels to subscribe to, which Instagram profiles to follow, and more. Then there are the recommendations given us be friends, family, and at church of suggestions to grow both spiritually and intellectually striving to understand Catholicism in greater ways. Is there an effortless way to become more spiritual? Is there a way to become more spiritual in a Catholic sense? The Church gives us countless gifts such as Holy Scripture, prayer, and the most important one, the Holy Eucharist. If you would like one simple suggestion to connect with your spiritual side at home, here is one idea.

Observation of Nature

In our fast lives, it is a challenge to find the time to be still, not to rush, and to enjoy the day and all it is beauty. For those who work, go to school, are running around with kids, or tending other responsibilities of life, it seems demanding to find quality to sit down, reflect, read, and even to pray. A simple suggestion: take time in nature to observe, slow down, and enjoy even from a window in a quiet place.

How is this done?

You will not have to go extremely far to do this by observing nature right from your favorite window at home or at work. Gaze at the sky, the trees, observe the wind, and breathe. As you do this, think of God’s presence, about his love, and about his guiding hand over all of creation. Perhaps, pray a Rosary, reflect, and continue to watch and observe nature. Take the time to just be, and do not be afraid to be unhurried about it. It is a gift to yourself. You are utilizing parts of your brain in which you will be in a contemplative mode, and this is a conducive to prayer.
