Give us this day our daily bread
Our Supreme Court is currently working on a case that has the potential to overturn the Roe v. Wade national abortion legality. This is promising, but this is only the beginning. The evil in our country is relying upon this evil. And evil will not be relenting in their attacks. If Roe v. Wade is overturned, then the legality of killing little humans in the womb will be determined by the states.
When we are faced with evil, how will we respond? And can we see the killing of little innocent humans in the womb as one of, if not, the most evils? It will be uncomfortable as is anytime that we confront evil, but it must be done. It was uncomfortable for the Allied Forces to confront Hitler. It was uncomfortable for the North to confront slavery. But in all cases, it was needed.
Are you called to confront this evil publicly? Likely. Anything less would seem like an acceptance of the evil. It will not be comfortable. But it is needed. Will you be hated? The South hated the North and the Axis hate the Allies. Surely, you cannot expect anything less. But if we are to see the image and likeness of God in everyone, it requires us to defend the image and likeness of God in everyone. Who is your neighbor? Some are in the womb.
Joseph, you were faced with Herod’s plan to kill your Son. You followed the Will of God confronted with evils along the way. Help us to confront the evils that we face, especially the gravest evils of our day. Amen.
