The best way to evangelize: a Catholic perspective
There are many articles on-line about the doctrines of the Church, theological concepts and debates, evangelizing, theology of the body and more. There do not seem to be many writings on basic issues such as taking the time to be a volunteer or active in your parish community as a Catholic. Now more than ever, we are all needed to help our parish communities in so many ways. Here are some basic ideas on getting active at your parish.
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion
There are many sick and homebound parishioners and not enough people to bring Holy Communion to them. Investigate the process at your parish on becoming an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communio. This may involve both bringing Communion to the sick and homebound and at Mass.
Lectoring
Public speaking is a fear many people have, and lectors are needed for Masses making it challenging to find volunteers. It is an honor to have the opportunity to proclaim the Word at Mass. Practice at home and inquire at church to find out more how to get involved.
Parish School Help
Parish schools are under pressure to find volunteers to help in many ways including school boards, lunch time help, and fundraising activities. Many Catholic schools find it hard to make ends meet in these areas. Contact your local parish school and find out where there are gaps in their community groups. You will find this work rewarding, and there are surely ways you can assist.
Cleaning the Church
Especially after dealing with a global pandemic, cleaning the church is imperative. Few people if any are willing to take on this task as a volunteer. Ask your church how you and/or your family can help. It can be a family group effort!
Fundraising Efforts
The pandemic has made it harder on parishes to make end meet even if things are starting to normalize. There are many financial gaps still being addressed at this time. Parish events and creative fundraising ideas can and will help your parish to survive the challenges over the last two years. Ask your pastor how you may help. Again, this can be a family effort. Get creative! Your parish community will appreciate your efforts.
Prayer for Your Parish Community
Continue your fervent prayers for you own parish community. When it becomes a family effort in charity, it is sure to succeed. Keep praying!
