Stumbling towards Unity
03/18/2022
What a difference a day makes, as the old song goes. Yesterday’s angst over whether Pope Francis would command the world’s bishops to join him, in unison, to consecrate Russia/Ukraine in accordance with Our Lady’s request . . . has turned overnight into speculation that the Holy Father’s forthcoming “invitation” to said bishops, announced yesterday, will be ignored by many.
(Ironically, in the name of obedience, most of the episcopate eagerly jumped on board to implement Traditionis Custodes last summer, even though they could have legally and with clear conscience ignored it under the Code of Canon Law. But I digress.)
The good news is, some bishops including mine have taken the lead in responding positively. Missouri Bishop Shawn McKnight has called for the priests in our diocese to join with him and the pope to consecrate Russia/Ukraine as scheduled on the Feast of the Annunciation, March 25, 2022.
Meanwhile, respectfully petitioning our bishops (and thanking them afterwards, as appropriate) will serve to reinforce the urgent need to take care of the century-old unfinished business initiated by Our Lady of Fatima in 1917. May this Open Letter to the World’s Bishops inspire you.
Let us be mindful that our earthly battle between good and evil continues, as stated in an urgent message this morning from the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP), calling for our fervent prayers and sacrifices in the week ahead:
“The forces of hell will no doubt try to prevent this consecration from occurring as God desires.”
It continues: “We also remind you of Our Lady of Fatima’s request to do penance, to pray the Rosary, and to make the Five First Saturdays”, providing more information about First Saturdays here. If you aren’t practicing this devotion, resolve to begin this Saturday, April 2!
In good faith, let us each do our part in this time leading up to what should and needs be nothing short of a climactic, world-changing event.
Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us! St. Francisco, pray for us! St. Jacinta, pray for us! Servant of God Lucia, intercede for us!
