Archdiocese: St. Michael statue is not bleeding, might be nail polish
It has become an overnight sensation but the dangers that lurk behind the latest social media hot button of what is referred to as the Charlie Charlie Challenge are more detrimental that the majority of parents and adults are grasping.
The Challenge is a spin off of a traditional Mexican game called “Six Pencils” or “The Pencil Game”. The Charlie Charlie Challenge appears to be a mixture between the Ouija Board and Bloody Mary, only with a sinister and dangerous spin. Once it begins, you give control to the demon referred to as Charlie.
I will not go into details as to how to set up the game or how to perform it, but it involves the simplest of items…a couple pencils and paper. What may seem like a simple and fun game is the playground of demons.
It does not matter to Satan if you are wanting to have some fun or play a game with your friends, #CharlieCharlie is a direct invitation from Satan to whoever will accept it to allow him to take control. It is Satan’s attempt to have you to step into the playground of demons and play. Sound silly? Perhaps to many individuals it sounds like it is stretching it to say Satan is concerned about something as silly as a pencil game, but that is just the trick. He wants you to think he is not concerned with small matters like that. Now, if you participate in the Charlie Charlie Challenge, you may not feel anything different, you may not see anything incredible and may not believe anything different has happened. However, rest assured, you have caused a division between you and God.
However, another danger of this game is that it places the demon Charlie in control over you. In fact, you have to ask Charlie’s permission to quit the game and if Charlie does not say the game is over, you have to continue playing until he allows you to leave or it is said Charlie will haunt you until you return to the game and gain his permission to leave. Does that sound like you are in control?
There are no innocent games when you play with demons. You open yourself up to demonic activity when you participate in games such as Charlie Charlie, Ouija or even the Bloody Mary. It opens up windows to your soul and your life you do not have the control to close once those windows are taken advantage of by the demons.
The Charlie Charlie Challenge is a game that has caught on like wild fire on social media and it is the calling up of a Mexican Demon called Charlie and Charlie, similar to the Ouija, answers questions from those participating by moving pencils to ‘yes’ or ‘no’. However, here is what the Catechism says about divination and demonic play grounds.
“2116- All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to ‘unveil’ the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.”
Let’s take a quick look at Scripture and see just what God’s view of divination and playing with demons is throughout Scripture.
In Deuteronomy 18:10 God tells us, regarding divination, “there shall not be found among you…anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens.” Divination is compared to rebellion in I Samuel 15:10. God takes it so seriously that divination is listed as one of the reasons for Israel’s exile in 2 Kings 17:17 and Jeremiah 14:14. However, take a look in the New Testament and we see the problem continues. In Acts 16:16, Luke is traveling with Paul and Silas in the city of Philippi.
“We were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling.” However, read a couple verses through and you will see the girl’s ability to fortune tell and to create a great fortune for her owner was because a demon controlled her. Her masters received a lot of money from her slavery through her activities but Paul eventually exorcised the demon in verse 18 and freed the girl from her spiritual bondage in verse 19.
Divination in any form is sin. Charlie Charlie, Ouija Board, Bloody Mary, they are all divination forms. It is communicating with, playing games with, and giving control of your life and activities to demons. It is witchcraft. Scripture says those spirits that are not the Holy Spirit or angels are evil spirits. Charlie is not an angel. He is a demon and he is to be avoided.
