St Joseph, a great man that teaches us much.
We think to ourselves, “of course, I will answer.” To that, God says, “Then, why haven’t you?” God is calling us all of the time. But are we listening? Our lives are chaotic, and most of that is our fault. We do not take the time to listen, because we do not think we have the time to listen. Taking time to listen to God, not tell Him our wants and desires, but to listen to Him.
It is quite life changing to listen to God. Many people change their whole life’s trajectory. And yet, many simply live holy lives within their current life trajectory. St Francis listened and metaphorically fixed The Church. Today, the Franciscans are everywhere. We likely are not called to do likewise. But we will not know what God wants of us if we never listen.
To listen, we need to set aside time. We may expect God to just speak over all the noise, but He speaks in silence. Waiting on those that are seeking to hear Him. Are we going to be among those seeking to hear Him? Blessings on those we love depend upon us listening to God. God’s will is love and that which He wants from us is love, for us and those we love.
St Francis, you listened to God and then acted upon God’s will for you. Help us to set aside time in silence to listen to God and then act upon God’s loving will for us. Amen.
