Finding God in Our Imperfections
Today’s Gospel is about our good friend, the doubting Thomas. I have a feeling that each of us resembles Thomas in some way at one point in our lives. Maybe we don’t necessarily doubt that Christ rose from the dead, but we do often doubt God’s resurrection and restorative power when we face difficult and uncertain times. We struggle to trust and have faith in these times.
Maybe you’re burned out in your job, but don’t have any other opportunities surfacing. Maybe you’re depressed about a loss in your life. Maybe you feel stuck in anxiety about a problem you’re facing. Maybe you’re having relationship difficulties and don’t know what can fix the situation. Maybe the prognosis for a medical condition of you or a loved one doesn’t look good. Maybe you’re struggling financially, drowning in debt, and see no way out. Maybe there’s a negative or destructive pattern in your life that you can’t get over. Maybe a dream of yours hasn’t come to fruition and it seems like it never will.
In all of these scenarios, we can get sucked into doubt that God’s resurrection power isn’t going to bring new life to the situation. We can become like Thomas.
But there’s hope! Jesus can heal our doubt. He can help us see the light of truth in these situations if we follow His lead.
So today ask yourself, where does Jesus need to heal your doubt? Then ask Jesus to help you overcome your doubt and believe that He can bring resurrection life to your situation.
