The Importance of Purity and Chastity
Recently, on an episode of her radio show Mother Miriam Live on Lifesite News, Mother Miriam Moss, or Mother Miriam of the Lamb of God as she is known, a Benedictine prioress and founder of the religious community Daughters of Mary, Mother of Israel’s Hope, stressed the importance of adhering to Church teaching, particularly where it concerns gender ideology and the LGBTQ movement. She made clear the fact that every person who professes to be a Catholic, from the pope down through the clergy and laity, has a responsibility to uphold the Church’s denouncement of homosexual acts and transgenderism and to teach others that these ideologies are grave sins, and that they put theirs and others’ eternal salvation in grave danger if they do not.
“Anyone, according to St. Paul, who teaches another gospel, he will be anathema, he will not see heaven,” she said. “Very, very serious.”
She made clear that anyone, especially shepherds in the Church, who are leading sheep astray and supporting homosexual “marriage” and the LGBTQ lifestyles, are not on the way to heaven.
“You are on your way to hell,” she warns, “unless you not only repent but publicly confess your sin, and warn anyone who has followed you into such heresy, in order that they be saved.”
Although strong, her words remind us that following the ways of the world and teaching others to do so will have catastrophic consequences, not only now on earth, but especially in eternity. God created us male and female for a reason, for His greater glory and for the advancement of the family and procreation of children, and His wisdom far surpasses the wisdom of the world, no matter how often we think we know better. The current state of the Church, with the clergy sex abuse crisis, shows us that promoting homosexual tendencies and acts, particularly within the Church, reverberates throughout the world and hurts the sheep within the Church who looked up to these shepherds, and also those without, who are now confused and may be led further away from the fold of the Church instead of closer. And the people who were part of this, or stood by without praying for the Church or speaking up when it was necessary, will be held accountable on Judgment Day.
Mother Miriam also spoke about the responsibility of parents to safeguard their children and teach them in the ways of the Faith. She said that if parents permit their children’s moral corruption, they will not be in heaven, since they have the “number one stewardship of their children,” not the Church or schools. This is why parents must be proactive in making sure they are aware of what their kids are being taught in school and not continue to put them in that school if they become aware of “sin and debauchery,” such as LGBTQ ideology, being taught.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church lays out this position in paragraphs 2221 and 2222, saying “The role of parents in education is of such importance that it is almost impossible to provide an adequate substitute” and that parents must regard their children as children of God and educate them to fulfill God’s law. Unfortunately, we are seeing attempts in our country today by some school boards to block parents from knowing what is being taught in the schools and even Disney, a company which was once so kid friendly and promoted wholesome values, is now sneaking in LGBTQ ideology into its movies, shows, and theme parks, even stopping the use of the phrase “ladies and gentlemen” at some parks, thus trying to introduce our children to these sinful ideologies and lifestyles. To a lot of parents’ credit, some have been pushing back, refusing to give their kids over to the government and expose them to these things. Sadly though, some parents are going along with this, and others have even supported their own children’s misguided belief that they were born to be the opposite gender and have let them go through surgical transition. These are the very kinds of things that Mother Miriam warns against, saying that doing them only jeopardizes the person’s eternal salvation, as well as those of others.
We are sadly living in immoral and corrupt times, and we must do all that we can to educate others on the dangers of the world’s teachings today. We must also pray for the Church and for society, for parents and their children, that they may all be safeguarded from the corrupt nature of LGBTQ and other harmful ideologies. We cannot afford to go along with it, pretending that everything is alright for fear of offending others. It is far better to avoid offending God and to work diligently to avoid losing our eternal salvation.
