May, Mother’s Day, Mary the Mother of Jesus
Mother loved these days;
special days celebrating new life,
new adventures, new love.
Married, 12 years
motherhood was denied;
yet each day she prayed to Mary.
New life in springtime flowering;
warm sunshine spreading growth-
life begins again once more.
Twins, so unexpected come to life
double work, double love,
twice the blessing from Mary.
The mother of Jesus understands
love, blessing, unexpected days;
human and divine intertwine.
Praying, guiding, building up
children grow and develop
into mother’s hopes.
May, a special month for all;
motherhood honored, loved-
Mary with baby Jesus and all children.

About the Author
Mary Rivers retired to beautiful Point Clear Ala on Mobile Bay. A lifelong Catholic she graduated from UNC, Chapel Hill. She was one of the first, if not the first, Catholic hired in Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system. She was a reading specialist and doing graduate studies until she married her husband, Jim. Together they have one child and three grandchildren. She is involved in social justice programs and writes a Catholic blog.
