A Visit of Kings
Why are leftists so upset about what’s happening in Washington right now? The rumored federal overturning of Roe v. Wade is monumental for sure, but it’s only the tip of the iceberg in what’s going on in the US. The family unit used to be treasured, but now the country is on fire and the family is suffering more than ever before. What happened?
Let’s back up and look at the bigger picture. That is, let’s take a bird’s eye view of the value of life and how it’s been viewed over the decades. In my parents’ era, 40s and 50s, there was still a large Christian influence (mostly Catholic in their regions) and family values were, well, valued in all parts of society. Schools honored that this nation was under God and the family unit was one man and one woman. Children were a blessing to a married couple. People attended church weekly. So what happened next?
In a 1962 Supreme Court ruling, prayer was removed from public schools, taking away that public connection to God that developing children need as part of the learning process. Without God, we lose touch with goodness and right judgment and so chaos may ensue. Around the same time, court cases increased to allow homosexual unions. By 1970, Minnesota saw Supreme Court case to legalize same sex marriage. And from December 1971 through January 1973, the Supreme Court case of Roe v. Wade made history by legalizing abortion for all 50 states. It took ten years.
Ten years from the time prayer was removed the family unit broke down. Marriage, a holy union instituted by God, was ‘redefined’ by secularists. The act of procreation no longer being holy under national laws meant murdering the unborn could be seen as a personal right. But that’s not all the chaos.
We know that divorce has been around since the days of Moses, so views on marriage were already tainted. To further mar the image of marriage though, New Jersey saw a case in 1976 which questioned the validity of transgendered marriages. A transgender woman (man who changed to female anatomy) was divorcing his partner who helped him transition and suing for support. This case opened the doors to many more cases; However, it wasn’t until 2015 that the Supreme Court legalized all marriages regardless of gender or anatomical reassignment in Obergefell v. Hodges.
These days, children can obtain abortions without their parents’ consent, start transitioning without their parents’ consent, and parents may not even know these ‘resources’ exist and that some teachers and medical providers are assisting. This is all done in the name of civil rights.
So many have bought the lies, which have led to the cries of many leftists flooding social media with their fear mongering. They scream for fear of gay marriage going away or gay rights being taken. They fear children committing suicide because we can no longer kill the unborn. Yes, I cut right to the chase; that’s their argument basically. Of course we don’t want anyone committing suicide! We want everyone to be loved (not tolerated but loved) and to have life. This is why we pray and why we raise our children to value life. We want them to value the life they have and keep a grip on reality, not fantasy. (No, little Johnny, you cannot become a walrus.)
So if you, like me, have leftist friends tearing out their hair and ‘living in fear’ as they say, take heart! Christ tells us, “I have told you this so that you might have peace in me. In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.” (John 16:33) Pray, pray, pray for those misguided and continue to pray for our nation and all the unborn.
