Good Faith Efforts
I had the most delightful and wholesome bachelorette party this past weekend. My girlfriends in Christ threw me a tea party at a local tea house, and then we went to mass afterwards at a church down the street.
It was such a joyfilled day of delicious tea and delicacies, receiving Catholic marriage books as gifts (the gift that keeps on giving!), catching up and conversation, and receiving Christ in the mass.
It felt like a celebration of the joy that was coming in just a couple weeks, and I could feel that among the girls with me! Everyone loved it and had a great time.
When I had shared what I was doing for a bachelorette party with my coworkers, they weren’t impressed and didn’t think it sounded exciting enough!
It made me ponder how bachelor and bachelorette parties have gotten out of control over the years. Many are now full weekend trips, tons of bar hopping, or other activities that really don’t reverence the Sacrament that the bride (or groom) is about to partake in. We Catholics and Christ followers should be better models of how to have these parties in a more wholesome way.
If you’re looking for a more Christ-centered way of celebrating your upcoming marriage, think twice about what society considers a true bachelor or bachelorette party and go the wholesome, pure route. I don’t think you’ll regret it. I certainly don’t!
